Preloader for the whole page

Hi

I have an animation which sits above a static html5 page acting as an intro which fades once complete leaving.

The preloader for the animation works, but doesn't kick-in until the background html page and images have loaded, which leaves a blank page before the animation starts. I've tried a couple of preloaders ( loadie.js  is one example), but this then affects the edge preloader.

Does anyone have any ideas I could look into to get a preloader to work for all the elements in the page?
