How do I animate a specific div of a html page?

I understand the basics of Edge Animate and I've been able to create animations encompassing the whole page, but how do I specify an animation to a specific <div> within a page? What if I want to just program a page the old fashioned way with only a few animations limited to certain divs? What then? Is this possible or do I have to use Edge Animate for the whole page? I just find this limiting as a programmer.
