Can't import .json file

I'm trying import a json file into my EA project (I'm on version 2014.1.1) by creating a json file with a .json extension, then clicking on the + sign next to Scripts. However, the .json file does not appear in the list. It only appears if I change the extension to .js.
If I select the .js file, will this screw up my project? If so, how do I get around this?
